A friend posted the picture below on Facebook and asked that we share it. I find it really funny but sadly true as well. Contrary to popular belief, the entire continent of Africa is NOT constantly at war. And as for all those pictures of children with snotty noses begging for help, I strongly suspect those are staged. Because in all my ~19 years of living in different countries in Africa, I never saw any such scenes. And for those who love to donate to charity, be warned…I never heard of any of these aid agencies until I arrived in the US. I’m not saying they aren’t helping someone somewhere. It’s obviously in some village in the middle of nowhere. Knowledge dispels ignorance. There is a ton of information available. Educate yourself and get rid of preconceived notions. You can start by buying some African art!
